SME CORP MALAYSIA DRIVES THE EMPOWERMENT OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES THROUGH THE ENTERPISE 50 PROGRAM

SME Corp. Malaysia, an agency under the Ministry of  Entrepreneur Development & Cooperatives (MEDAC) awarded 50 Malaysian SMEs at the E50 Awards on 25 November 2022. Since 1997, the E50 Awards has been credited as a prestigious award that symbolizes achievement in business and entrepreneurship. Additionally, it is a recognition for SMEs in driving changes toward increased competitiveness to re-stimulate the country’s economic growth as a whole.

YBrs. Encik Rizal bin Nainy, Chief Executive Officer of SME Corp. Malaysia shared, “To date, SME Corp Malaysia has successfully produced a total of 763 E50 Award recipients, some of whom have successfully entered the public listing of 67 companies, as well as expanding the company’s market and brand both domestically and abroad.”

Of the 50 SMEs that received the E50 Award tonight, 50% were from the manufacturing sector while the remaining 50% were from the service sector, where previously the sector dominated as E50 winners. In addition to the 50 SMEs that received the E50 Award, there are also two (2) special awards, namely the E50 Best Female Entrepreneur Award and the E50 Best Export Entrepreneur Award. This is the first time SME Corp. Malaysia introduced the Best Export Entrepreneur Award to recognize the contribution of SMEs to the national gross domestic product (GDP) of exports and employment, especially how companies continue to excel in the post COVID-19 era.

Yee Wing Peng, Chief Executive Officer said, “The E50 Awards continue to play a major role in recognizing high-performing SMEs and their outstanding achievements, further acknowledging their role in the economy. Over the past decade, we are honored to participate in this great initiative together with SME Corp. Malaysia is building a Malaysian PPP that is ready to advance. The trend of Malaysian SMEs thriving is very encouraging. More than 56% of the winners have significant export capabilities. I am sure that many of them will follow in the footsteps of E50 alumni, to emerge as global players.”

Among the many esteemed guests present were; YBhg. Dato’ Suriani binti Dato’ Ahmad,  Seceretary-General of Ministry of Entrepreneur Development & Cooperatives (MEDAC), YBhg. Dato’ Sri Syed Hussein Al Habshee, Chairman of SME Corp. Malaysia; YBrs. Encik Rizal bin Nainy, CEO of SME Corp. Malaysia and YBrs. Mr. Yee Wing Peng, Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Malaysia.
