Malaysia’s economic growth has experienced a significant boost from domestic investment initiatives. Recently, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), in collaboration with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), successfully convened the National Investment Seminar: Re-Energising Domestic Investment at Kuala Lumpur’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
The event drew over 300 participants from diverse backgrounds, including industry leaders, business associations, senior management from manufacturing and services sectors, entrepreneurs, and Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs). YB Liew Ching Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), delivered keynote remarks, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to drive forward industry initiatives. Notable figures in attendance included Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, Chairman of MIDA; Mr. Jacob Lee, Vice President of FMM; Mr. Fadzlan Abu Bakar from MIDF; and Dr. Anthony Dass from the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER).
Deputy Minister YB Liew Chin Tong highlighted the critical need for resilient supply chains, a primary concern for firms post-COVID-19 and amid current geopolitical challenges. He underscored the Malaysian government’s ambitious agenda to significantly grow industries, enhance technological capabilities, promote sustainability, and ensure equitable growth distribution. The aim is to align Malaysian firms’ technology levels closer to those of leading regions like South Korea, Taiwan, and Shenzhen.
Mr. Jacob Lee of FMM praised the event’s robust participation, emphasizing the collective commitment to rejuvenate domestic investment and integrate SMEs into the global supply chain. He highlighted efforts to advance Malaysia’s manufacturing sector.
MIDA’s partnerships, particularly with FMM, play a crucial role in bolstering local enterprises, stimulating domestic investment, and enhancing Malaysia’s attractiveness to international investors.
