A CSR event held by Lotus has driven the locals to lighten up the mood for Ramadan and Eid. Under the tag – #KitakanJiran, the community program intends to reach out to B40 communities and orphanages by having cookout sessions together with the Food Aid Foundation. During the Ramadan month, Lotus stores in Sungai Dua, Penang, Ara Damansara, Selangor and Plentong prepared 2000 meals for the #KitakanJiran project. Volunteers of Lotus Malaysia and the Food Aid Foundation donated the prepared meals to the mentioned groups who are currently beneficiaries of Lotus’s Food Surplus program.
Head of Communications and CSR for Lotus’s Malaysia, Hanim Hamdan, expressed his feelings by stating, “Collaborating with a trusted NGO partner like Food Aid Foundation not only provides us with the access to reach more vulnerable groups but also learn from their expertise in the preparation of a good balanced and nutritious meal. It’s also an opportunity for our colleagues across the business to be more involved in volunteerism through charitable work as part of living up to our #KitakanJiran spirit as Lotus’s employees.”
The inflation of goods has been an issue for many grocers due to the pandemic. With the high demands from the consumers, Lotus decided to bring back the pre-covid prices with #Imbasbalikharga2019 as an initiative for the locals to have a worry-free festive fasting and Raya season. In addition, all 64 stores in Malaysia were installed with food charity bins where customers can participate in the donation drive throughout the month of Ramadan.
