Declared by fans to be the best rapper in Southeast Asia, Singaporean Hip-Hop Artist – Yung Raja, was shocked to learn that his latest single “Mami” was featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The young rapper was overwhelmed with joy when he woke up learning about the news and began to burst into tears as he embraced his parents, telling them what had happened.
Little did he know that Jimmy Fallon featured his song on a list of songs to avoid in his segment called “Do Not Play:” In the video, Jimmy Fallon lined up several songs with lyrics that he thinks people should avoid, the last one being Yung Raja’s “Mami”. When the song played, however, the show’s house band – The Roots is seen vibing to the beat and dancing to his song.
Fans rose to his defense, filling up the comment section on both Twitter and YouTube with nothing but love for Yung Raja and his work. In an exclusive interview with Yung Raja asking him how he felt about the whole situation, he told us that “all is good” and there is no such thing as bad publicity. He even went on to comment on the YouTube video saying “THANK YOU FOR PLAYING MY SONG!!!! 😭😭😭😭”; soon after, Jimmy Fallon followed the Singaporean artist back on Twitter and claimed that he enjoyed the song.
When asked about the inspiration behind the song “Mami”, Yung Raja said just like with every other song that he produces as well as his music videos, the goal is to make people smile and enjoy themselves, forgetting about the negativity in the world for a brief moment. Towards the end of the session, Yung Raja let us in on a little secret. Towards the end of the session, Yung Raja teased a new single that is soon to be revealed.
