SIRIM Bhd has just introduced Malaysia’s new electric vehicle (EV) setup with the launch of the National Rechargeable Battery Testing Centre (NRBTC), paving the way for a greener lifestyle.
Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), highlighted how this launch propels Malaysia into the global EV arena. He pointed out that Malaysia is seriously into EVs, evident through initiatives like the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
This new ecosystem encompasses pattern approvals for EV Charging Systems, the NRBTC, and Testing and Certification for EV Charging components and systems. The event, part of the 2023 SIRIM Industry Council, saw dignitaries such as SIRIM chairman Datuk Ir Dr Khair Anuar Mohamad Tawi and president and CEO Datuk Indera Ir Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, alongside other industry leaders.

Khair Anuar highlighted the broad impact of the EV ecosystem, which is expected to benefit not just businesses but also the public at large, “We’re creating quality job opportunities, strengthening local connections, fostering economic growth, and promoting sustainable practices—all in line with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030,” he stated.
He also commended SIRIM’s longstanding legacy of ensuring safety, reliability, and trust in technology and research, a legacy that has endured for over 50 years. Additionally, the event also recognized organizations certified by SIRIM QAS International in 2022, with over 910 organizations and 1,500 products receiving certifications under various schemes.
