IFMA MUAYTHAI YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IS BACK IN MALAYSIA FOR THE SECOND TIME

The International Federation of Muaythai Association (IFMA) and Malaysia Muaythai Association (PMM) organized the IFMA Muaythai Youth World Championships Malaysia 2022. This was the second time Malaysia hosted the championships after its first stint at Langkawi in 2014.

The championship was officiated by YAB Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Prime Minister of Malaysia at , Sunway Lagoon. About 3,500 athlete delegations from 110 countries participated in the championships which took place from 9 August to 17 August.

Dr. John Mohd Abdul Rahim, the Secretary General of the PMM mentioned that the Youth World Championships creates a platform for national young athletes to polish their skills and improve themselves to compete internationally in the future.

“More than 100 countries will camp at Sunway Pyramid to participate in this tournament. It will definitely give good signs for the sports industry development in Malaysia after two years of not being a host for this international tournament.”

Contestants between the age of 8 to 17 including 70 national young athletes in Malaysia have participated in the championship which features more than 200 categories for males and females collectively.

Furthermore, the youth championship took place simultaneously with the World Grand Slam Championship which is participated by international elite athletes from 200 of the world’s leading clubs. They have contested in the highest stage of championships including the world tournament, SEA Games, and Malaysian Games (SUKMA ).

Malaysia was able to get a profit of RM50 million from the participation of countries in these championships which will bolster the country’s tourism, economic and social growth.
