Multi-award-winning Malaysian singer Dayang Nurfaizah will be releasing her 9th album titled BELAGU, a unique project that took years to complete. In the Sarawak Malay dialect, BELAGU means “to sing”; it features a reimagining version of timeless classic Malay songs. The album showcases Dayang’s take on Classic Malay hits, arranged and produced by distinguished music producer Aubrey Suwito. The 8-track album offers an alternative and fresh perspective of the classic tunes.
Dayang said that she chose the evergreen song, Tudung Periuk, as the first release of her album as it is a well-known Classic Malay song composed with Malay poetry and a hauntingly beautiful melody. She released her interpretation of Tudung Periuk in advance as a sneak peek for her fans to enjoy, as they will most definitely love the other renditions in BELAGU if they liked what she did with Tudung Periuk.
With a vision and hope that Classic Malay songs remained timeless and evergreen, Dayang says, “With BELAGU, I want to reintroduce Classic Malay songs to the younger generation in a new and fresh light. Classic Malay song has its forms of music, literary style, and technique of singing. We hope the younger generation will enjoy listening to these Classic tunes as much we enjoyed making this album.”

The BELAGU album was recorded in a live setting to bring a fresh and unique approach to the songs. A selected venue was transformed into a live studio recording session alongside the most talented musicians under Aubrey Suwito’s direction and performed by Dayang in her style. While BELAGU is scheduled for release on 12 February 2021, Pre-orders are available on all major digital music platforms now.
