Gatorade, the world’s leading sports drink brand, is strengthening its footprint in Malaysia’s sporting landscape as it powers the inaugural Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025, the country’s first national pickleball championship. Organized by the Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA) and co-hosted by the Kuala Lumpur Pickleball Association (KLPA), the championship marks a significant turning point for the fast-growing sport, moving it from community-driven play into a structured national competition platform.

The championship will be held from December 5 to 8 at PickleDepot @ Sentul Depot, and is open exclusively to Malaysian athletes. The tournament introduces a formalized competitive environment where participants will compete across Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The results will help establish official national rankings, reinforcing pickleball’s rapid transition into a disciplined sport with clear pathways for advancement.

Speaking on Gatorade’s involvement, Amy Gan, Vice President of Marketing at Etika Sdn. Bhd., emphasized the brand’s commitment to athlete development. “Gatorade has always stood for performance, science and progression,” she said. “We support everyday players in discovering their potential, elevating their game, and competing on a national stage. Beyond sponsorship, we aim to build a sporting ecosystem where coaching, competition, and conditioning develop confident, disciplined, and resilient athletes.”

Her remarks highlight Gatorade’s scientific approach to fueling, hydrating and recovery,  essential pillars for athletes competing in a sport defined by agility, rapid reflexes and sustained endurance.

Building Pathways for Long-Term Talent Development

For the MPA, the Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025 serves as a foundational move toward establishing a credible and structured talent development pipeline. As the sport gains momentum nationwide, the association recognizes the importance of formal competition in shaping future athletes.

Y.B. Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Member of Parliament from Sarawak and Advisor to the Malaysia Pickleball Association, underscored the event’s importance. “This championship signals an exciting new chapter for pickleball in Malaysia,” he stated. “By providing a clear and competitive pathway for our athletes, we are laying the groundwork for long-term talent development and a stronger national presence in the sport.”

This perspective aligns with pickleball’s evolution from a recreational pastime into a platform that drives community connection, active living and competitive aspiration. The championship is strategically designed to accelerate that trajectory by offering athletes a national arena to showcase skill, strategy and sportsmanship.

A New Competitive Experience for Malaysia’s Pickleball Community

The four-day championship will feature matches played according to official pickleball rules, ensuring fair and consistent play across all divisions. Spectators are encouraged to experience the event firsthand at PickleDepot @ Sentul Depot, where the atmosphere is expected to reflect both the energy of the sport and the discipline of a national-level competition.
