At a press conference between Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) and Golden Global Awards (MGGA), it was announced that MIFFest will be collaborating with Udine Far East Film Festival (FEFF) in Italy, where they will be organizing the fifth edition of MIFFest alongside Samsung Malaysia Electronics and MIFFest Project Market (MPM) as co-organizers.
The collaboration between MIFFest and FEFF sets a new milestone for the local entertainment industry as MIFFest will be taking this opportunity to bring great exposure to several local films during the 24th edition of FEFF. Visitors of the FEFF will be happy to learn that a Malaysian film – “The Assistant “, will be hosting its world premiere during the festival.
Wu Ke-Xi, Keoh Chee Ang and Vijay Munisamy will be introduced as the jury panel for the MIFFest Project Market that will be held on 12th-13th July 2022 as they will select the Top 5 Projects that are capable of grasping their attention. The deserving projects will stand a chance to proceed with Sunstrong Entertainment, Jazzy Pictures and Lomo Pictures for further production. To acknowledge the creativity of the scriptwriters, Sunstrong Entertainment will award the Best Script Award among the five projects, which will receive an RM10,000 cash prize.
Bront Palarae, the ambassador of MIFFest and MGGA expressed how honoured he is to be chosen to represent the festival yet again. The press conference was attended by the local Malaysian filmmakers, artists and directors: Hairul Azreen, Henley Hii, Lim Mei Fen, Joey Leong, Debbie Goh, Tong Bing Yu, Kabir Bhatia, Adrian Teh, Chong Keat Aun and other filmmakers.
Chairperson of MIFFest, Joanne Goh said, “Discovering great works and filmmakers is what we aim to do at the Malaysia International Film Festival, and this time, in addition to MIFFest Project Market, we will also be partnering with Samsung Malaysia Electronics to hold a short film competition.”
Themed – “Borderless With Nightography”, the short film competition will require contestants to submit a storyline that correlates to its elements. The top 22 teams, will receive a Galaxy S22 Ultra for the next round of the short film competition. On the other hand, the top three short films shot using the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be premiered in cinemas at the fifth MIFFest.
