Adele Lim to direct the Princess Diaries 3

Lim is a self-professed diehard fan of the Princess Diaries.

Malaysian screenwriter, producer, and director Adele Lim has been selected to helm Disney’s much-anticipated The Princess Diaries 3, marking her second Disney project after her work on Raya and the Last Dragon.

Lim, who gained recognition for co-writing Crazy Rich Asians and her directorial debut with Joy Ride, will lead the return of the beloved royal comedy. Anne Hathaway, who starred as the lovable Mia Thermopolis in the first two Princess Diaries films, will be reprising her iconic role. Lim expressed her excitement, saying, “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to bring this third installment to life.”

“We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide,” she told Deadline.

This new chapter in The Princess Diaries franchise promises a mix of romance, humor, and adventure as Mia navigates life as a royal. Lim’s direction will undoubtedly infuse the film with the same emotional depth, humor, and cultural richness that have defined her past works.

With Lim’s distinct perspective and Hathaway’s beloved portrayal of Mia, fans can expect an enchanting and heartwarming continuation of the modern fairy tale that first captured hearts over two decades ago.

The Princess Diaries 3 is currently in pre-production, with additional casting and release date announcements expected in the coming months.
