Local e-mobility migration solution provider ECORIDE announced its collaboration with Malaysia’s largest homegrown Halal hypermarket and retail chain – MYDIN to operate EV charging stations at selected MYDIN branches in an effort to deliver a sustainable impact to the community.
Expected to be available to the public beginning December 2022, the first installation will commence in Johor Bahru at MYDIN Mutiara Rini, followed by MYDIN Pelangi Indah and MYDIN Taman Rinting. It was revealed that the ECORIDE EV stations will soon be available in the central region in the near future.
Tuan Syed Ahmad bin Syed Mustafa, ECORIDE’s Managing Director expressed that initiating this collaboration in Johor Bahru is a strategic implication to leverage Singapore’s superior use of electric vehicles. Singaporeans who travel to Johor Bahru regularly enjoy shopping at MYDIN because of its competitive prices and thus, ECORIDE is able to attract more visitors now that there are charging stations to meet the demand and requirements of Singaporean travelers.
The charging stations will be utilized to their highest potential by accommodating consumers during the day and utilizing it to charge ECORIDE’s fleet during the night to further drive its sustainable endeavors. Apart from that, ECORIDE is looking to launch a concept charging station in Johor where consumers are able to charge their vehicles while indulging themselves in a variety of food and beverages at the cafes and stores available. According to them, the location has already been confirmed, and will soon be revealed to the public.
Tuan Syed Ahmad bin Syed Mustafa, commented, “ECORIDE prioritizes convenience. We are targeting Singaporeans in this regard – when they visit Johor to shop or eat, they are able to conveniently charge their vehicles before making their way back.”
“The transition to an electric fleet can be a challenge too. Businesses and operators normally don’t know where to begin. We want to change that by offering a holistic solution that is bespoke to their business and operational needs. From choosing the right vehicles to charging infrastructure, we can deliver simplicity and scalability for businesses in electrifying their fleet,” he added.
Mohd. Azwan bin Ahimmat, MYDIN’s Property and Finance Director, said, “The collaboration with ECORIDE today is the manifestation of our commitment towards the national zero carbon emission through the green initiatives and we affirm to take the roadmap further across all MYDIN malls in future.
Through its SHIFT Program, ECORIDE aims to accelerate the adoption of EVs on the road to achieving a net zero-carbon environment for the nation. Hence, in addition to this, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between ECORIDE and Mobility Asia Sdn. Bhd (Moovby) to offer consumers a platform to rent electric vehicles on an hourly or daily basis. This also benefits car owners by generating passive income through the utilization of their cars.
“Moovby’s partnership with ECORIDE, will accelerate our progress toward our vision of making cities and communities in Malaysia a better place to live through car sharing. We believe it will accelerate electric vehicle adoption, as consumers are able to access EVs more easily” said Nik Muhammad Amin, Founder & CEO of Moovby.
