To enhance environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in Malaysian industries, Sirim Bhd has launched the Sirim ESG Holistic Ecosystem. This initiative helps businesses achieve sustainability goals and support both local and global environmental efforts.

The ecosystem offers ESG support through Sirim’s subsidiaries, including Sirim QAS International, Sirim Academy, and Sirim IR. Sirim’s chairman, Datuk Dr. Khairol Anuar Tawi, encouraged industries to leverage this expertise to meet their ESG objectives, positioning Malaysia as a leader in sustainable practices.

The launch took place during the 2024 Majlis Sirim Industri event in Petaling Jaya, attended by key figures such as Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil from the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) and Sirim’s leadership team. Datuk Bahria highlighted that as global demand for sustainability grows, this initiative will help Malaysian industries incorporate ESG principles and achieve global competitiveness.

Sirim QAS plays a critical role, offering 46 certification schemes such as ISO 50001 for energy management, ISO 37001 for anti-bribery, and ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management. It also includes specialised certifications like Product Carbon Footprint and Social Responsibility Certification.

Sirim Academy complements this effort with training and consultancy services, including ESG framework development and professional certifications like Certified Sustainability Professional and ESG Practitioner. It also provides sustainable reporting courses through its partnership with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Sirim IR adds technical expertise in carbon accounting, energy audits, and environmental monitoring. So far, nearly 40 companies have earned Sirim’s ESG certifications.

Additionally, Sirim is working with MITI on the Smart Tech Up programme to establish 3,000 smart factories by 2030. This year’s Majlis Sirim Industri, themed “ESG: Driving 50 Years of Change,” celebrated the 1,000 organisations and 1,500 products certified by Sirim QAS in 2023, further showcasing Sirim’s commitment to sustainability.
