MRA HOSTS “RETAIL PARADOX” CONFERENCE TO UPSKILL MALAYSIAN RETAILERS

The Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA) was delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the MRA Retail Conference 2024, themed “Retail Paradox,” which took place on 3rd-4th July 2024 at the Parkroyal Collection Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. This pivotal event addressed the multifaceted and often paradoxical nature of the global retail landscape, bringing together industry leaders, experts, and innovators to share insights, strategies, and solutions for navigating the complexities of modern retail.

In Datuk Andrew Lim’s (MRA President) welcome address, he expressed profound gratitude to Yang Berhormat Senator Puan Hajah Fuziah Binti Salleh, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, for her gracious presence and for delivering the opening speech. He acknowledged the significant support and assistance the Ministry provides to the Malaysian retail sector.

“Our theme, ‘Retail Paradox,’ reflected the intricate and often complex nature of the global retail landscape. At MRA, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve, providing valuable insights, and fostering collaboration among retail leaders in Malaysia. This Conference was designed to assist our Malaysian retailers in navigating the ever-evolving retail universe,” said the MRA President.

The Conference delved into critical themes such as charting the future of retail, strategies for competitiveness, and the transformative impact of online retailing. The various sessions explored operational challenges, the future landscape of customer demographics, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies like AI in the Malaysian retail environment.

Emphasizing the importance of networking, the MRA President urged participants to connect with industry experts, exchange ideas with peers, and forge business and knowledge partnerships to propel their businesses forward. He highlighted the goal of adapting to and thriving amidst disruptions, setting new benchmarks for retail excellence.

Fuziah, in her opening remarks, commended MRA for its dedication and commitment to the development of Malaysia’s retail sector. “Retail is an integral part of our daily lives. The rise of e-commerce has transformed consumer behavior and business practices, presenting both opportunities and challenges. As we gathered today, we reflected on the resilience and revival of our retail sector post-pandemic.” 

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with retailers to build a vibrant ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of digitalization and new technology adoption to drive the retail industry forward.
