Malaysia is reaffirming its position as Southeast Asia’s premier franchise hub with the return of the ASEAN Franchise Convention (AFC) and the Malaysia International Franchise Exhibition (FIM) 2025. The twin events will take place from May 7–10 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), promising a dynamic platform for industry growth and collaboration.
Bringing together franchisors, investors, aspiring franchisees, regulators, and key government bodies, AFC and FIM 2025 aim to strengthen the region’s franchise ecosystem and open new doors for international expansion.
With the theme “Shaping the Future of Franchising in ASEAN: Sustainability, Digitalization, and Growth,” the event reflects Malaysia’s deepening commitment to driving cross-border partnerships, promoting the globalisation of local brands, and attracting foreign investment.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted the broader national strategy behind the initiative. “AFC and FIM 2025 reflect Malaysia’s dedication to strengthening the franchise industry as a key pillar of digital economy growth and entrepreneurial development in the region,” he said. He added that the government is implementing various strategic programmes in 2025 to deepen regional engagement and bring direct economic benefits to the public.
Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) Chairman Datuk Dr. Radzali Hassan shared that this year’s exhibition will showcase over 100 franchise brands from 14 countries—including China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Singapore—and is expected to draw more than 30,000 visitors.
“We hope AFC and FIM will become powerful engines for franchise sector growth and contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s economic progress and regional standing,” he said.
The franchise industry also plays a pivotal role in Malaysia’s aspirations to become a global halal hub and top tourism destination. With halal-certified brands meeting religious requirements while appealing to quality-focused consumers globally, the MFA is urging greater collaboration between franchise players, halal operators, and tourism agencies to fully harness this synergy.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) and the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA), AFC and FIM 2025 are supported by strategic ASEAN partners and international stakeholders. FIM also holds the distinction of being the only Malaysian franchise expo endorsed by the World Franchise Council (WFC), Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC), and MATRADE.
