Malaysia Airlines launched its inaugural flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Amritsar (ATQ) and Trivandrum (TRV) on November 8 and 9, 2023, with a send-off event at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
Departing at 6:50 pm and 9:30 pm local time, flights MH118 to ATQ and MH116 to TRV were welcomed with a water salute upon reaching their destinations. Both flights were operated by the airline’s Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft, as stated by the Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAG).
The national carrier’s chief executive officer Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi expressed pride in being the first full-service premium carrier to provide flights to South Asia and the Pacific for Amritsar and Trivandrum. “The expansion of our routes to India goes beyond mere connectivity, as this effort yields a range of positive outcomes, from driving economic growth to boosting tourism, nurturing cultural exchange, and facilitating global collaboration,” he said.
This introduction of two new routes expands Malaysia Airlines’ point-to-point connectivity from Kuala Lumpur to India to eight key hubs, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi. The airline is committed to enhancing connectivity and plans to start operations to Ahmedabad (AMD) in December this year.
