With support from the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) joined forces with the Malaysia Society of Nephrology (MSN) and the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN) to host the World Congress of Nephrology 2022 (WCN’22) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 24 February to 27 February 2022. Throughout the congress, kidney health experts from all around the world have been invited to share their latest science and clinical applications in improving kidney care and preventing kidney disease. With it being a hybrid event, 3000 delegates attended the online event and 900 Malaysians attended the physical event making it the highest turnouts for medical congress ever since the pandemic.
Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB, said, “This event was supposed to attract a record number of 4,000 international delegates which could have generated RM120 million in estimated economic impact had it been done physically. With this regard, I truly hope the government authorities shall reconsider ease of travel for our business events delegates that broadly contribute not only to the national economy but more importantly to the advancement of medical and science.”
Professor Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Gafor, President of Malaysia Society of Nephrology, added “Hosting a world congress is not easy but we at the Malaysian Society of Nephrology are glad to have undying support and encouragement by our delegates from all over the world. We also receive never-ending support from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) who have helped us since the biding stage until the congress is finally here in Kuala Lumpur.”
During the congress, Kidney Failure, Chronic Kidney Disease, and Acute Kidney Injury were the main highlight of the event alongside raising awareness of kidney diseases in the ISN Community Film Event.
