Previously an old cinema hall, BookExcess planted its foot in RexKL as they immerse the visitors in a world of books and unique architecture. The architecture of the 16th BookExcess outlet was designed to be one of the most comprehensive structures ever created for the bookstore. With art portraits and towering shelves occupying the space of RexKL, visitors will be set on a maze-like adventure during their visit to the outlet.

Stacking 80,000 books on the massive bookshelves, the managing director of BookExcess, Andrew Yap, wishes to create an immersive experience for the visitors when they visit the RexKL outlet. By bringing in artworks from the local scene and Indonesia, Andrew hopes to lighten the book domain where visitors could do a little sightseeing while enjoying their time in RexKL.

Quoted from Malay Mail, Co-founder of RexKL, Shin Chang, shared his views on the architecture of the book store. Chang stated, “Think of Petaling Streets and you’ll think of the narrow aisles or how people would need to squeeze to cross another street. That was the same experience that I wanted foreign visitors to experience when they visit this bookstore to feel the streets in this building.”
