YB Tuan Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security attended the official ceremony of The Food & Drinks Malaysia (FDM) by Salon International de l’alimentation Network (SIAL) showcased on July 4th at Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC). The launch was successful with 450 local and international brands from 22 countries exploring the opportunities and businesses within the international and local food community. The FDM was created with the intention to explore opportunities in the F&B sector ranging from seafood, food technology, and different condiments and to gain insight into halal foods and food innovation.

‘The Global Food Marketplace’ is a platform under SIAL (pronounced as sai-uhl) Network that shares the intention to connect and facilitate businesses internationally in the F&B community which officially made its way to Malaysia during the FDM. During the three-day trade fair, research made by the KANTAR SEA Insights FOOD 360 2022 whitepaper report was shared mainly focusing on Malaysia and Indonesia. Across 11 countries focused on Southeast Asia, they provided analytics on said countries highlighting notable food trends within this region.
The fair also featured “The Next Frontier” which is a food conference where stakeholders discuss protein technology as a new source of food solutions that are sustainable along with other platforms such as The Future Food & Agriculture Pavilion by Impact Circle had the opportunity to showcase local and foreign startups for potential investors. Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia were brought together by the Regional Halal Forum to inform those who attended on halal legislation, certification processes, and the halal transformation map of said countries. Overall the fair was educational and opened the eyes and ears of many who attended.
