IKEA Space Range Launch Event
IKEA’s newest space range, The AFTONSPARV collection, landed in IKEA stores nationwide. It featured a special appearance by Malaysia’s first astronaut, Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, and exciting space-themed activities for customers at each location!
AFTONSPARV, IKEA’s latest space-themed kids’ collection, brought the marvels of outer space into homes. With cuddly soft toys, cardboard spaceships, and tent rockets, the collection aimed to inspire imagination, creativity, and a sense of adventure in aspiring astronauts and explorers.
Malcolm Pruys, the Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia, emphasized, “At IKEA, we believed that play is the best way for children to learn, grow, and develop – and home is their most important playground. Developed in collaboration with children aged three to seven, AFTONSPARV offered endless opportunities for creative and role-playing activities, igniting their enthusiasm and love for space.”

Driven by its mission to nurture the next generation of space explorers, IKEA Malaysia partnered with Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar for a nationwide tour. The first Malaysian astronaut visited IKEA stores across the country, sharing his space exploration experience with IKEA customers and space enthusiasts.
“I was eager to meet fellow Malaysians, including parents and their children, at IKEA stores across the country, and thrilled to partner with IKEA to inspire a love of space exploration—something I’ve always been passionate about,” said Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar. “Imagination is the fuel that propels us to dream big and reach for the stars. By sharing my experience, I hoped to encourage young kids and Malaysians everywhere to pursue their passions, no matter how big or small.”

The tour kicked off on 8 November 2023, with an official launch at Level 1 of IPC Shopping Centre in collaboration with IKEA Damansara. Visitors were able to catch a glimpse of Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar at IKEA in Cheras, Tebrau, and could catch him at his last stop, at IKEA Batu Kawan, on 25 November 2023.
The AFTONSPARV collection encouraged children to explore their curiosity for outer space while also being designed with sustainability in mind. This aligned with the IKEA commitment to make its play solutions as sustainable as they are safe and fun. Soft toys in the new space range were made of recycled polyester. Meanwhile, cardboard in the rocket play tent contained at least 70% recycled materials.
