The highly anticipated action-packed Malaysian blockbuster, Zombitopia, premieres exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar today, starring Shaheizy Sam, Bront Palarae, Datin Elvina Mohamad, and Sharifah Amani.

The film starts off in the aftermath of a vicious zombie outbreak in Malaysia where the actors are to adapt to the harsh conditions after the zombie epidemic. Zidik, played by Shaheizy Sam, is forced to face the reality and his traumatic past of losing his family to the zombie virus.

“It is a serious film with a grim setting, but what makes the story great is the fact that you can relate to this situation. You can see through Zombitopia how people would react to an outbreak in society,” said Shaheizy Sam.

Bront Palarae who plays the role of an antagonist in the movie, said that Zombitopia has a dynamic storyline and is set in a fast-paced, and aggressive setting that also brings a wholesome human element to it that is sure to be loved by the audience.

‘Zombitopia’ is the second zombie film by director Woo Ming Jin, who set out to tell a different kind of zombie movie; one that is more visceral, serious, dramatic, and realistic. “I know that zombies are a fantasy, but I want to make realistic looking zombies that can run fast and that are actually dangerous,” he said.

He then added, “We had CGI characters that used a lot of visual effect elements which I was not used to, and I think our industry is also not used to it and it was very difficult. I’m not quite sure on the percentage of CGI used because there are a lot of small things that audiences might not notice that used CGI,  like the veins, blood and sometimes just simple wiring.”
