The 15th World Lion Dance Championship is set to captive audiences at the Arena of Stars from 25 to 27 July 2025, bringing together the world’s top lion dance teams for a high-stakes competition. Co-organized by Resorts World Genting and the Federation of Selangor and Federal Territory Dragon and Lion Dance Association, the championship is known for its dynamic performances, technical excellence, and gravity-defying stunts.

This year’s edition holds particular significance as it coincides with Resorts World Genting’s 60th Anniversary, marking a milestone celebration with an unprecedented increase in the prize pool. To commemorate this occasion, the competition aims to host 40 teams, an expansion from the previous 36, further elevating its global prominence.

“Lion dance has become a powerful cultural bridge, uniting communities and individuals across the globe. This year, as we celebrate our Diamond Jubilee, we aspire to feature 40 teams from around the world, an increase from 36 teams in the previous edition. Winning teams will enjoy greater prize money while lion dance enthusiasts can look forward to even more exhilarating performances,” said Spencer Lee, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and PR.

For the first time in the championship’s history, the Champion will be awarded USD 18,000, along with their name engraved on the prestigious perpetual trophy, as well as individual trophies and medals. The first runner-up will receive USD 10,000, while the second runner-up will take home USD 6,000, in addition to trophies and medals. Seven teams will also be recognized with Excellence Awards, each valued at USD 1,800.

A new addition this year is the “Best Difficulty Award,” which will honor the team executing the most intricate and daring stunts. The winner of this special category will receive USD 2,000 and a trophy, recognizing their creativity and technical mastery.

Malaysia will be represented by the nation’s top lion dance teams, including Xuan Long Dragon and Lion Dance (Rawang), the Catholic High School Alumni Association Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe, and Tarian Singa Kwong Ngai, who secured their spots through the 20th Malaysia National Lion Dance Championship.

Registration for international teams is now open until 15 March 2025. For updates, visit rwgenting.com or follow Resorts World Genting’s official social media channel.
