The Miss & Mrs Curvy International 2020/2021 recently took place at the RDA Banquet Hall in Bandar Sri Damansara. Organized by MK Asia Production Entertainment, the unique pageant was formed to remind everyone that all women are beautiful, and all of us deserve to celebrate our curves. Instead of the term plus size, the pageant uses the term ‘Curvy’ to inspire women through a platform to showcase their talents and empower them to a more confident future.
Muraalie Kannan, Founder & Director of Miss & Mrs Curvy International, said, “I realized there were many plus size women who faced various challenges, including body shaming from society. That is when I decided to bring these plus-size women out from their shells and fear, to show the world that these women are worth much more than society perceives them to be. I want to empower plus-size women and give them a platform where they can be themselves, embrace self-love, and create self-acceptance.”
37-year-old agriculturist from Johore Bahru, Shamini Manoharan took home the crown after triumphing in a series of competitions including the flamboyant traditional attire round, stunning evening wear round, and outstanding talent round. Shamini also claimed a subsidiary title that night and was named Best Evening Walk (Miss). The Mrs Curvy International 2020/2021 crown, on the other hand, went to Indra Lina, a 42-year-old educator from Selangor who also took back the Mrs Photogenic subsidiary title. For their outstanding performance, these 2 victors each won a cash prize of RM3000, a crown, sash, trophy, a bouquet and other valuable prizes.
The 17 finalists were previously announced in mid 2020 as they prepared themselves for their journey towards contending for the title – Miss Curvy International 2020 and Mrs Curvy International 2020. The pageant takes the contestants through a series of interviews and auditions to strengthen their social and communication skills. They came up with various training exercises and activities, allowing the contestants to reach their full potential and prepare them for the grand finals. Among these exercises are – Fitness Session, Pageant Training, Photo-shoot, Certificate, Charity, Grooming, Make up Class, Catwalk Training, Image Building, and more.
Apart from that, Miss & Mrs Curvy International revealed 2 of their ambassadors at the grand-finale event – Ammetta Malhotra, Super Model Universe Malaysia National Director, and Anastasia Doping, Publisher of Rentak Sejuta. The top 5 winners walked home with prizes worth RM46,000 cumulatively. The judges of the Miss & Mrs Curvy International 2020/2021 include – Sherilyn Marissa Kee, Jimmy Wong, Theviapurani Gunasayaran, Mertinih Ivy Joklis, Ammeta Malhotra, MDM Jenny, Jesh Thiam, Fatimatou Diallo, Danielle Chong, Wan Aiman, Kokila Vaani, Nur Shida Abdullah, and more.
