TikTok, a leading platform for short-form mobile videos, is all set to captivate Malaysia with its inaugural TikTok Awards on 27 August 2023, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. This event marks an important milestone for Malaysian TikTok content creators. Yin Yin Hooi, Head of Marketing and Operations at TikTok Malaysia, shared her excitement, “This remarkable event will honor the outstanding achievements and remarkable efforts of our creators who form the core of the platform. As the creator event of the year, we are delighted to see enthusiastic participation from both online and offline brands, contributing to the awards’ potential as a stepping stone for creators to gain more exposure and collaborate with some of the most prominent brands in the industry.”

The collaboration between TikTok and TV3 adds an exciting dimension to the event. Nini Yusof, CEO of Media Prima Television Networks and Primeworks Studios, expressed her enthusiasm, “TV3 is pleased to collaborate with TikTok and host the inaugural TikTok Awards in Malaysia. This awards ceremony offers fans a fantastic opportunity to support their favorite creators and celebrate the best in the TikTok community.”

The TikTok Awards Malaysia celebration takes on a dual approach, comprising both the Judge’s Pick and People’s Choice categories. In the Judge’s Pick, nominees are chosen by a respected executive panel, including notable figures like Nini Yusof, Hael Husaini, and Angga Anugrah Putra. The six categories – Beauty & Fashion, Education, Entertainment, Sports, Gaming, and Food – were unveiled during the TikTok Awards press conference.

Conversely, People’s Choice empowers the public to have their say. Fans and viewers are encouraged to cast their votes for their preferred creators in seven distinct categories, spanning from “Creator of the Year” to “TikTok Shop Creator of the Year.” Voting commenced on 15 August and will continue until 26 August 2023, via the dedicated voting platform.

Adding a touch of elegance, TikTok will also crown the recipient of the sought-after “Best Dressed Award,” celebrating the most stylish and original attendee. The public’s voice will determine the winner, as a panel of judges shortlists the most fashion-forward participant for the evening. The live broadcast of the TikTok Awards will be exclusively available on TV3 and TikTok Malaysia’s TikTok account. By registering to watch the event, fans can actively participate in celebrating the success of Malaysian creators.

The star-studded event promises appearances by beloved Malaysian celebrities and creators such as  Datuk Yusof Haslam, Bell Ngasri, Amber Chia, and more, who will grace the stage to present the awards. Audiences can also look forward to thrilling performances by luminaries like Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, Ziana Zain, Zeppo, DOLLA, and others.

In the spirit of engagement, TikTok is extending the celebration to the public through TikTok Awards: INSPIRE. This experiential zone, hosted from August 24 to 27 at Sunway Pyramid, LG2 Orange Concourse, invites the public to engage in interactive activities, win prizes, and draw inspiration from the nominees themselves. Additionally, a Creator’s Meet & Greet session on August 26 offers fans a unique opportunity to connect with their favorite creators, fostering a sense of camaraderie and excitement.
