“Indera” Steals the Spotlight for the opening of MIFFEST 7th edition
The 7th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) commenced with grand celebrations at The Exchange TRX, marking the start of a week-long cinematic extravaganza. The festival’s opening ceremony showcased its growing significance in the global film community with a star-studded affair and a diverse lineup of films.
Notable speeches included those from Joanne Goh, Founder and President of MIFFest, whose inspiring words emphasized the festival’s mission to create unforgettable cinematic experiences. Joanne Goh stated, “MIFFest is not just about films, it’s about celebrating the art of storytelling and the diverse voices that bring these stories to life.” Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib, CEO of the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), also graced the stage, expressing his support and highlighting the collaborative efforts behind MIFFest.

“Indera” Steals the Spotlight with Captivating Performances by Shaheizy Sam and Azira Shafinaz. Directed by Woo Ming Jin, supported by FINAS and presented by Lomo Pictures and Greenlight Pictures, “Indera” captivated the audience with its masterful blend of psychological horror and emotional depth. Woo Ming Jin’s atmospheric storytelling, combined with compelling performances by Shaheizy Sam, Azira Shafinaz, and Samara Kenzo, created an unforgettable cinematic experience. The film’s evocative cinematography and intricate narrative provided a profound exploration of organic themes.
This year’s theme, “Uncaged,” is brought to life with an impressive lineup of 50 films from 30 countries, presented in more than 35 languages. Another significant highlight was MIFFest’s collaboration with foodpanda, which presented the short film “Good Things Take Time,” a tribute to the arduous yet rewarding journey of filmmaking. This partnership reinforces the festival’s mission to celebrate the art and craft of cinema.
