The Malaysian Interior Industry Partners Association (MIIP) hosted its 14th Gala Dinner and Awards Night on 27th September 2024. As a biennial celebration, this year’s event featured a special opening ceremony officiated by YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming. It honored outstanding individuals and companies from the interior building industry, recognizing their excellence and contributions over the past two years.

This year’s event had the honor of hosting YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), marking the first time a ministerial-level official has graced the MIIP event. YB Nga Kor Ming praised MIIP for serving as a cross-industry platform and urged the sector to adopt digital transformation through AI and IoT to elevate interior design and service offerings.

He also acknowledged the industry’s advancements in adopting greener, more sustainable practices in line with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards. This vision aligns with the government’s goals of reducing carbon emissions, improving waste management, and fostering a sustainable economy. YB Nga Kor Ming encouraged MIIP to keep promoting these principles, helping build an innovative, sustainable, and people-centered Malaysia.

Since its inception, MIIP has actively collaborated with government bodies and government-linked companies to pool resources for industry advancement. In the post-pandemic era, MIIP has begun incorporating foreign models of “Industry-Government-Academia” collaboration, working closely with universities to inject innovation into the interior building industry, creating a win-win situation for all stakeholders. As part of these efforts, MIIP introduced a new award category this year—the “Interior Product Design Award”—specifically for Malaysian university students.

In line with the global shift towards a “green economy” and “sustainable development,” MIIP has consistently featured an “Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS)” category within its awards to ensure that industry players remain committed to green practices and sustainability. These awards are evaluated under the guidance of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) within the Ministry of Human Resources.

In his speech, MIIP President Mr. Elvin Tay highlighted the remarkable achievements of the current committee, including a substantial increase in membership—from 80 members two years ago to over 120 members today. “This growth reflects the industry’s recognition of MP’s core value of ‘collaborative growth over cutthroat competition,'” said Mr. Elvin Tay.

The invitation of a minister-level official to the awards signifies a milestone for MIIP, further solidifying its influence and strengthening ties with the government.
