On the 11th November 2021, Cyberport announced APRU (Association of Pacific Rim Universities) , a consortium of 60 leading universities in the Pacific Rim region, their brand new head office, in Cyberport as Cyberport and APRU will be gathering talents APRU Student Esports Paper Competition and the APRU Esports Fellowship Program.
The first APRU Student Esports Paper Competition
As the first APRU Student Esports Paper Competition, Cyberport and APRU will co-organise by supporting esports as an academic speciality and persuade students to make a quality research in the esports fields as it will benefit students’ and universities’ resources and knowledge pool in the emerging field.
For those who consider to participate in this program, APRU Student Esports Paper Competition will recognize outstanding papers in the field of esports and applicants must be a current undergraduate student of a university in the Asia-Pacific Rim together with submitting a paper regarding business models for the esports industry, esports for social good, and health/ wellness in esports.
The winners of this competition will receive award certificates and scholarships paid directly to their universities worth up to MYR 49,000. For each category, the first prize is set at MYR12,495 and MYR 4,160 for the runner-up. In addition, the winners will be invited to present the research results at the second edition of the Esports MetaGame Conference on 11 December, which is a spotlight event of Cyberport’s annual flagship event, Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum (DELF).

APRU Esports Fellowship Program returns
Due to last year’s great success, Cyberport partners with APRU for the second cohort of the APRU Esports Fellowship Program until 30th November 2021. It is believed that students in the Pacific Rim region has the capability to learn and experiences that support the growth of healthy, vibrant esports communities and to become the future leaders of the esports industry and during the six-months program, Cyberport will offer students workshops, internship opportunities, and entrepreneurship opportunities that are related to esports.
Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport, said, “Our collaborations with APRU for the Esports Paper Competition and APRU Esports Fellowship Program second cohort will help the youngsters in Hong Kong deepen their understanding to esports as an emerging industry and build up an international peer network for their esports career.”
