Organised by Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia, the first-ever Northern edition of the SME and Entrepreneurs Business Awards (SEBA) 2022 is set to take place on 26 March 2022 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, Penang, in the presence of the guest of honour – Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak, as an effort to uplift SMEs and entrepreneurs that are established outside of Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier this year, Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia announced that the awards will be adapting the SEBA 2022: RISE UP concept, where they will be expanding into three chapters – the Northern Edition, Southern Edition, and the KL Grand Central, for its seventh instalment. The objective of this movement was to draw attention to deserving SMEs and entrepreneurs in Northern and Southern regions, while the KL Grand Central edition serves as the pinnacle of recognition.

The Northern edition of SEBA 2022 saw an overwhelming response, receiving nearly 200 applications from industry leaders who have made their mark in Langkawi, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Perak; out of which, 35 were nominated to claim the prestigious award at the grand gala event. These SMEs and entrepreneurs come from a multitude of industries including F&B, Education, Hospitality, Logistics, Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing, Information Technology, Digital Technology & Solutions, Healthcare, Beauty & Wellness, etc.

Nitesh Malani, Chairman of Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia and Founder of SEBA, said, “Our objective stretches far beyond just recognising and acknowledging businesses in the Northern region. SEBA brings with it a platform for entrepreneurs to obtain global visibility through digital means, and instil confidence within the consumers for being backed by a well-known and credible brand. As the market evolves, so must businesses; hence, we move forward by penetrating the Northern and Southern regions of Malaysia, further driving businesses to excel and adapt to international standards.”

Lyndia Wong, Organising Chairperson of SEBA, said, “These SMEs and entrepreneurs play a significant role in our economy in both servicing the consumers and contributing to our national GDP. It is especially important for us to support them now, given that many of them were on the brink of closure as a result of the pandemic. Those who prevailed and adapted to the situation most definitely deserve to be applauded at SEBA 2022, which of course is one of our primary objectives. We aim to escalate these businesses by bringing them much much-needed recognition and publicity, in turn, we hope that it will motivate industry leaders within the Northern region to innovate, lead, and adopt creative solutions that will take Malaysia to the next level.”

This year, life insurance and family takaful provider – Sun Life Malaysia, join in as the Official Insurance Partner to offer their expertise in financial and protection planning for all nominees and awardees. For more details, visit www.seba.asia
