MICHELLE YEOH BECOMES FIRST MALAYSIAN ACTOR TO WIN GOLDEN GLOBES AWARD

Michelle Yeoh at the Golden Globes Awards 2023

Malaysian actress, Michelle Yeoh, won her first Golden Globe award on January 11 2023 at the annual Golden Globe Awards 2023 in Los Angeles, California.

The actress won ‘Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy film’ for her role in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once,’ beating Lesley Manville (Mrs Harris Goes To Paris), Margot Robbie (Babylon), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu) and Emma Thompson (Good Luck To You, Leo Grande).

This win makes her only the second Asian and first Malaysian actor to win a Golden Globe. The win drew a flurry of congratulatory messages online, with many describing MichelleYeoh’s success as well-deserved and fans commenting it would boost her chances of getting the best actress Oscar.

In her inspiring speech, Yeoh shared, “I remember when I first came to Hollywood. It was a dream come true until I got here, because, look at this face. I came here and was told, ‘You are a minority’. This is also for all the shoulders I have stood on, all who came before me who look like me, and all who are going on this journey with me forward.”
