Having sold 10,000 Coway Run 2021 tickets in a day, Coway Run 2021: Run for Your Region, has made its mark in the Malaysia Book of Records for the ‘Most Number of Virtual Run Tickets Sold in a Day’. Coway Run 2021, which started on 23 September 2021, is an inter-regional virtual run all around Malaysia, that allows participants to log in their run anywhere and anytime throughout the competition period. Since the virtual competition had received positive feedback, Coway Malaysia, the organizer, had decided to extend it until 31 October 2021.
Kyle Choi Ki Ryong, Managing Director of Coway Malaysia, stated that “It is such an honor and accomplishment to make it into Malaysia Book of Records for having the most number of tickets sold virtually. In this current pandemic where everything is shifting into the virtual sphere, we are glad to have made a decision to turn the Coway Run into a virtual one when we could not do a physical one last year.”
To make the competition even more competitive between the communities, a live map of their running route will be accessible to all runners where virtual achievement badges for every 5 KM milestone can be collected. Other than self-satisfaction of collecting achievements for the runs, RM30,206 was randomly distributed to 21 winners from the winning team.
EcoKnights, MERCY Malaysia and Reef Check Malaysia donated a total of RM200,000 to the virtual competition as the runners had accumulated more than the National Goal which was 200,000KM. This virtual competition was also supported by many local personalities like Bella Dally, Dini Schatzmann, Jym Chong, Mat Dan and Sean Lee as they took part in the competition.
To return back to the community, Coway continued their annual CSR initiative of delivering clean water to impoverished Orang Asli communities by contributing RM10 to Happy Water Project for every ticket sold.
