Michelle Yeoh stuns as Madame Morrible in Wicked, marking her Billboard Hot 100 debut with The Wizard and I.

Michelle Yeoh just added another groundbreaking achievement to her already legendary career. The Oscar-winning Malaysian actress has officially debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 with The Wizard and I, her duet with Cynthia Erivo from Universal’s blockbuster Wicked. The track entered the chart at No. 93, marking Yeoh as only the second Malaysian to ever appear on the Hot 100, following Aishah’s Don’t Make Me Fall Alone in 1990.

Yeoh’s musical milestone arrives amid Wicked’s extraordinary success at the box office. Directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film has already grossed an eye-popping $214.3 million domestically through its second weekend. By Sunday, its cumulative domestic total is expected to hit $263 million, shattering a 46-year-old record held by Paramount’s Grease (1978), which earned $190 million. That makes Wicked the highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation of all time at the domestic box office.

Globally, Wicked has already earned $358 million and counting, placing it as the fourth-highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation ever, behind Mamma Mia! ($611.2M), Les Misérables ($442.7M), and Grease ($396.2M). The film’s massive numbers are a testament to the enduring appeal of the Broadway classic and the star power of its ensemble cast, which includes Yeoh as Madame Morrible, a key figure in the Land of Oz.

The Wizard and I, an emotional powerhouse of a song originally performed on Broadway by Idina Menzel, marks a significant moment in the narrative. Yeoh’s performance alongside Erivo has resonated deeply with audiences, further fueling the film’s meteoric rise. For Yeoh, who is best known for her on-screen brilliance rather than her singing chops, this chart debut is yet another example of her boundless versatility.

This latest achievement caps off an extraordinary couple of years for Yeoh, who won an Academy Award and Golden Globe in 2023 for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Whether it’s leading a multiversal adventure, transforming into a Broadway powerhouse, or now making her mark on the Billboard Hot 100, Michelle Yeoh proves time and again that she is in a league of her own. As Wicked continues to dominate globally, Yeoh’s contribution to its success is yet another chapter in a story that shows no signs of slowing down.
