Multitalented actor, writer, theatre director, and filmmaker Gavin Yap is stepping out from behind the camera and onto the stage for his first-ever one-man show, FORK IT. This comedic and heartfelt performance will take place at BOBO KL on Saturday, 30th November, at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 1st December, at 5 pm.
“FORK IT” is a hilarious and heartwarming rollercoaster ride through Gavin Yap’s personal story, where a different milestone food dish inspired each story and memory. From childhood cravings to adult indulgences to questionable career paths, Gavin uses food to explore the uniqueness of growing up mixed in Malaysia, as well as the oddly personal relationship we as Malaysians all share with food culture.
“So much of my relationship with myself as a mixed race and as a person and ultimately, a Malaysian is connected to food,” says Gavin. “It connects the dots from me not responding to the food when I first moved here as a child to it now being an indispensable part of my life and who I am as a person. ‘FORK IT’ is a chance to share these stories in a way that’s both funny and relatable, reminding us all that the greatest meals are often served with a side of laughter and nostalgia.”
