YB Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, has recently graced the launch of Jelajah Mari Kenali Sawit. The launched event was a continued initiative from the Mari Kenali Sawit book published on 5 January 2022 in Putrajaya and 15 January 2022 in Ampang to educate primary school students on the importance of the palm tree industry in Malaysia’s socio-economy.
The exploration program contains a few components, such as talks, workshops, and briefings on the benefits of Malaysia’s palm trees. In hopes of searching for young ambassadors to promote the Malaysian palm exportation, a speech competition for the students will also be conducted throughout the program.
During the first phase of the program, Mari Kenali Sawit has involved 100 Middle and International schools in Peninsular Malaysia, while the following phase has involved schools in Sabah and Sarawak. In an effort to attract schools and students to participate in the program, agriculture companies in the palm industry have donated RM500,000 to the Ministry of Education, and the Malaysia Rubber Council also stepped forward to provide laptops and tablets to the chosen students.
Together with Chief Government Security Office (KPKK), this initiative wishes to protect Malaysia’s palm oil industry for both international and domestic markets by spreading awareness to the younger generation.
