The Malaysian International Food & Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB) hosted from 12 July 2023 – 14 July 2023 welcomed 400 exhibitors ranging from 60 countries and over 20,000 visitors at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The trade show was organized by Constellar Malaysia with the intention to collaborate on a more resilient food ecosystem.
Following the theme of “Accelerating ASEAN’s Food Security and Sustainability,” MIFB was intended to encourage F&B owners to create solutions to further grow even during challenging economic climates. They aim to overcome large challenges in the food value chain such as food wastage as well as climate change.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, YB Tuan Chan Foong Hin said “In 2022, agrifood activities as a whole contributed a substantial RM173.9 billion to our economy or 11.5% of Malaysia’s total Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This comprises the added value derived across subsectors throughout the supply chain including agrifood production, food manufacturing and processing, wholesale, retail, and F&B services. Without a doubt, the potential is huge and trade events such as MIFB serve as an essential platform in broadening market access and facilitating cross-border networking that will ultimately benefit local agrifood players. As industry experts around the globe congregate in Kuala Lumpur for MIFB and turn their attention towards initiatives that drive food sustainability, we hope this event will further propel Malaysia forward as a global leader in food,”
Across the globe, food has been constantly innovated with modern technology. To showcase this, the China-ASEAN Expo 2023 Roadshow and the Guangxi Export Fair, manufacturers, and suppliers gathered to showcase their newest technology at the MIFB fair. The MIFB’s Zero Food Waste Initiative debuted their propriety food waste compost machines that are able to collect, identify and transform excess food from the event into a crop fertilizer to be distributed back into the environment.
At the event, multiple organizations came together to discuss the solutions for food insecurity and to ultimately create a zero-waste food landscape. MIFB’s Trade fair encourages the connectivity between F&B enterprises to increase engagement and have in-person experience at the event, it is also a great opportunity for organizers to network and create business friendships.
Chua Wee Phong, Group CEO of Constellar, said “MIFB has become a signature event for the food & beverage community to learn about emerging consumer trends as well as challenges around sustainable food production. We are proud for MIFB to champion innovation on this front, where collective action can create impactful solutions to build a more secure future of food.”
