Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) officially launches the MRCA F&B Division that will be led by MRCA’s Immediate Past President, Datuk Seri Garry Chua. The new division was formed to represent and be the voice for F&B retailers with six main objectives:

  1. To form a body of retailers specializing in the F&B industry within MRCA, to assist and support each other in matters of business.
  2. To arrange training, programs, and networking events for the MRCA F&B Division members to encourage collaboration, goodwill, and alliances.
  3. To equip the members of the MRCA F&B Division with the right skills, information, and training to expand and develop their businesses.
  4. To promote and advance the professional development of the MRCA F&B Division in the retail chain business and franchise industry.
  5. To assist and support the MRCA in attaining its objectives.
  6. To do all such other lawful things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives.

The MRCA F&B Division is determined to help its members amid the chaos the pandemic has caused by working to improve the COVID act in order to protect and preserve retail businesses affected by the MCOs. As part of its first movements, they will also be advocating fair charges on delivery platforms, dine-in for vaccinated patrons, business recovery funding for SMEs, as well as Government initiated mediation on outstanding rent issues between landlords and tenants during MCOs.

To ensure all its members are well prepared to adapt to the new consumer trends and behaviors,  MRCA F&B Division will organize several workshops and training to upskill and prepare its members for the post-pandemic era. MRCA F&B Division will provide members with knowledge and techniques to improve their operational efficiency and provide opportunities for expansion through franchising.

Present at the press conference to officiate the launch of its new division was, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Ms. Shirley Tay, MRCA President, Datuk Seri Garry Chua, MRCA Immediate Past President, along with past presidents, council members, and F&B Members.

YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri said, “Today’s opening of the MRCA F&B Division will be  a concrete and formidable platform for the members, not just to assist and support each other,  but also to expand the business network to foster more collaboration, goodwill, and understanding.”

Then added saying, “I am sure some local home-grown retail brands have gone overseas and made a name for themselves. However, as global competition arises, it is important for us to continuously give our support to them. Promotions of the brands should be global, but the experience should be local so that our tourists can experience the authentic culture first-hand. Let’s  hope MRCA can take such a lead to bring more local retail brands into the international arena, and make  Malaysia a country to be proud of.”
