The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) and the Direct Selling Association Of Malaysia (DSAM) jointly raise emergency funds to provide essential food supplies for struggling Malaysians. Together, they aim to raise RM500,000 through this initiative to supply food boxes to more than 10,000 families in the Klang Valley and surrounding areas.
Each family will be provided with a food box containing a 5kg pack of rice, instant noodles, vermicelli noodles, sardines, baked beans, malt-based chocolate drinks, and cookies. The two associations embarked on this mission together on 3 July 2021; as of 16 July 2021 these food boxes were distributed to about 2,000 families in the following areas:
- PPR Pantai Ria, Kuala Lumpur
- PPR Sri Sabah, Kuala Lumpur
- Kampung Tasek Permai, Ampang Jaya
- Kampung Labu Lanjut, Sepang
- Kampung Baru Sungai Chua, Kajang
- Salak Selatan Baru, Kuala Lumpur
- PPR Seri Nilam, Ampang
- PPR Hiliran Ampang, Kuala Lumpur
- PPR Pandan Mewah, Ampang
Ms. Shirley Tay, President of MRCA said, “Many of our members are badly hit by this pandemic. Some cannot sustain beyond 3 months with their current cash flow positions. However, we believe that this collaboration with DSAM will be at least help the less fortunate as every contribution would lessen the suffering of the rakyat”
Datuk Tan Chong Guan, President of DSAM, commented saying, “During this difficult time, we understand many families are struggling to put food on the table. With this initiative, we are working alongside our retail partners from MRCA to help the affected families. Through this small gesture, we hope to help them to get through these challenging times.”
