The Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) was honoured to have received a celebrity visit from Miss Universe 2022, Miss R Bonney Gabriel (USA) and her sister runner-ups; Miss Andreina Martinez (Dominican Republic) and Ms Gabriela Dos Santos (Curacao) to their premises in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

The Guest of Honour was YAM Tunku Puteri Jawahir Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Jaafar, representing the President, YAM Tan Sri Dato Seri Tengku Azlan Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar, at Kompleks MAB, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

The celebrity guests and their entourage were treated to performances by the blind children and an exclusive tour of the pre school section. In attendance were YM Tengku Asra Jehan Juzailah binti Tengku Azlan, members of the Miss Universe Organization, including its CEO for Malaysia, Dato Westin Chew and included MAB council members with their CEO, Dato George Thomas.

The 1.5 hour visit included a sensory experience for the celebrity guests as they toured the office complex which features various interactive sensory areas for the Blind and visually impaired including the Sensory Garden, Braille writing and more.

The visit was aimed to promote awareness of the visual impaired, to encourage the public to understand better the challenges faced by the visually impaired and the holistic approach that MAB has undertaken over the years to enable and empower the visually impaired and the blind.

MAB continues to drive this community to potentially create an eco-system of able, independent individuals who are able to take care of themselves economically and be part of the long term inclusion vision into the public.

“The event was an opportunity for the children to interact with Miss Universe and her runner-ups, and to ask them questions about their work and experiences. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the children, and one that they will remember for years to come”, said Dato George Thomas, CEO of MAB.
