The all-new Lotus Malaysia, previously known as Tesco Malaysia, had just launched its first-ever Buy Malaysia Product campaign with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP). Awarded for Best Foreign Retailer and Fair Price Shop Awards at MDTCA’s Malam Anugerah Perdagangan Dalam Negeri 2020, Lotus aims to keep up its performance to be the best fair-priced shopping option for the upcoming years.
The event was officiated by KPDNHEP Secretary-General, YB DatukSeri Haji Hasnol Zam Zam Haji Ahmad on 2 December until 5 December together with Lotus’s Corporate Services Executive Director, Azliza Azmel, and graced by various key MDTCA officers.
Azliza Azmel stated, “We thank MDTCA for all the support provided to us in successfully operating our business for the wider benefit of the country. We aspire to continue investing in Malaysia by adding stores of various formats, bringing Harga Patut to the consumers, and creating employment opportunities for our Keluarga Malaysia.”
Being the leading retailer in Malaysia, Lotus wants to support all local SMEs to recover from the damages caused by the pandemic as Lotus believes that the local SMEs act as an important pillar of economic growth in Malaysia. With this vision in mind, Lotus’s SME Support Team are on the constant lookout for government agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) for future potential collaborations.
As part of the collaboration with FAMA, Lotus now aims to provide space for“fruits and vegetables” SMEs to sell and promote their products to the high volume of customers at Lotus’s Cheras.
Azliza added, “As a company, we always believe in the capabilities and qualities of local SMEs. So much so that as many as 90 percent of over 3,000 Lotus’s Own Brand items are locally sourced and manufactured in Malaysia. These range from our customers’ all-time favorite of nuggets, UHT milk and bagged chips.”
10 of Lotus’ existing suppliers, of which six of them were nominated by the Ministry, were part of the Produk Citarasa Keluarga Malaysia fair where 16 SMEs were allocated space to sell and promote their products.
