IOI SPORTS CENTRE KICKS OFF AT IOI CITY MALL

IOI City Mall, the largest retail mall in Malaysia located in IOI Resort City, Putrajaya recently opened doors to its world class sporting facility, IOI Sports Centre. Sports enthusiasts including badminton fanatics can utilise the 15 badminton courts and 2 mini futsal courts that can be combined into a futsal area or event space, measuring 41,375 square feet.

Dato’ Voon Tin Yow, Chief Executive Officer of IOI Properties Group, delivered his speech on the launch of IOI Sports Centre during the press conference.

“Badminton is a sport that brings Malaysians together. It will be more than just a destination for shopping and dining. The IOI Sports Centre attracts those who seek active and healthy lifestyles,” said Dato’ Voon Tin Yow, Chief Executive Officer of IOI Properties Group Bhd during the launch of the sports centre.

Joining him at the launch event was Datuk Rashid Sidek, founder and president of Kelab Badminton Rashid Sidek (KBRS) and other representatives from IOI Properties Group, including Chief Operating Officer, Teh Chin Guan; Chief Financial Officer, Melissa Tan; Ho Kwok Wing, Senior General Manager and Head of Retail, Chris Chong.

In conjunction with the opening of IOI Sports Centre, IOI Properties Group also announced its partnership with Kelab Badminton Rashid Sidek to form its very own badminton academy. IOI City mall has also announced its partnership with KBRS to establish its very own badminton academy called IOI Rashid Sidek Badminton Academy in which Datuk Rashid himself will take on the role as the Head Coach and Training Programme Director. At the academy, he will also oversee a team of highly qualified and experienced coaches for the academy.

Datuk Rashid Sidek, Founder and President of Kelab Badminton Rashid Sidek (center), said the partnership with IOI Properties Group aims to train and groom talents into becoming national athletes.

“Malaysia has consistently produced world class badminton players that have brought pride to our country, with many still waiting to be discovered. I’m extremely glad that IOI Properties Group built this world class badminton facility as this will be the platform for developing new and existing talents. Aside from this, existing elite players can also use this centre as their training ground to excel further in the world of competitive badminton,” said Datuk Rashid.
