Prevailing as a benchmark for survival games with over 110 million units sold across the globe, Resident Evil commemorates its 25th anniversary with an upcoming live-action CGI anime series. RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness will be featured on Netflix with its initial premiere on the 8th of July.
The anime series begins in a flashback in 2000 during the Penamstan civil war, in which a U.S. special forces helicopter falls from the sky. The U.S. Army Mad Dogs who happen to be on the same battle site are instructed by the command center to stand their ground. Instead, the Mad Dogs refused orders and decided to save the crash survivors. To their surprise, the boarded special forces had already perished. The Mad Dogs, led by Captain Jason, were forced to evade the site. Before the Mad Dogs could make a break for it, the supposedly dead special forces began showing signs of life with strange gestures.
Fast forward to the year 2006 after a top-secret file hacking incident takes place in the White House, four agents including Leon S. Kennedy and the ‘Hero of Penamstan’, Captain Jason, were assigned to the case to investigate. Midst investigation, the lights go off and the agents are faced with a horde of flesh-eating zombies. The agents alongside the SWAT team engage in a full-blown battle with the zombies and take them down. The agents then come to find that the top-secret file is related to a biology laboratory located in Shanghai. The agents decide to investigate further for clues and head to Shanghai in a submarine. On the submarine, a swarm of rat-like Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.) ambush them and force them into a life-or-death situation.
As the scene is set in Penamstan, TerraSave led a mission to provide support for the refugees of the war. A member of Terra Save, Claire Redfield encounters a child refugee who draws a strange sketch of an infected victim. Claire finds herself having recurring haunting thoughts of the sketch, so she decided to start her own investigation. Throughout her investigation, she discovers a horrifying experiment that was administered during the Penamstan civil war. Claire later meets Leon and teams up to get to the bottom of the unimaginable truth as they discover a terror creeping its way to world destruction.
Resident Evil fan-favorite character art, Claire, and Leon along with new characters Jason and Shen May are released prior to the premiere. Claire is seen holding the series’ classic flashlight in her hand as she probes around on an investigation. Both Leon and Jason are featured with grim expressions with pistols out at the ready. Shen May holds a disconcerted manner as she appears to be facing up to something baffling.
