GAVIN YAP BRINGS FOOD, FAMILY, AND MEMORIES TO JCPAC THIS SEPTEMBER WITH ‘FORK IT’

Gavin Yap’s acclaimed one-man show, FORK IT: One Man’s Journey Through Food & Memories, is set to make its largest run yet at the Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre (JCPAC) from 11 to 13 September 2026. Presented by JCPAC and produced by Superbear Productions, the production moves to a bigger stage following two sold-out runs at Bobo KL in 2024 and 2025.

Co-written by Gavin Yap and Honey Ahmad, the play explores how food serves as a bridge for family, identity, heritage, and memory in Malaysia. The story follows Yap’s personal experiences growing up as a mixed Chinese-English Malaysian, taking a humorous and vulnerable look at identity and belonging through the lens of local food culture.

“Food is never just food,” says Gavin Yap. “Every dish carries a memory. Every family has recipes that hold stories, traditions and people we never forget. I wanted to create a show that reminds us that while our backgrounds may be different, the table is where we laugh, argue, celebrate, heal and ultimately find each other.”

Stripping the staging back to its essentials – one performer, one stage, and personal storytelling – the narrative balances comedy with quiet reflection, touching on everyday Malaysian experiences from childhood dishes to late-night suppers.
