The opening of the country’s borders with revised SOPs on the economic sectors was announced on 1 April 2022 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato ‘Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaakob. With this, the Government hopes that businesses can recover from the drawbacks of the MCO in 2020.
Despite this, the Federation of Malaysian Business Associations (FMBA), represented by 125 Business Chambers and Associations in Malaysia, were still unsatisfied with the action taken by the Government. FMBA found that the MCO affected many businesses, and has put them into a very critical situation due to the negligence of the Government.
FMBA strongly advises the Federal Government to incorporate an effort that can contribute to all business entrepreneurs to ensure its recovery.
Listed below are the considerable initiatives listed by FMBA that could benefit businesses in Malaysia:
- The Government should release a special moratorium for businesses to apply.
- Halt all government agency activities while proposing a solution system to reduce Business Stress on Business Entrepreneurs.
- Implying new regulations for the employees to ensure the organization has a sufficient amount of staff.
- Control the utility prices that contribute to the operating cost of businesses as it will affect business entrepreneurs in particular and all citizens in general.
- Any initiative by the Government on modifying the minimum wages of employees should be suspended until most businesses fully recover from the pandemic.
FMBA hopes the Government takes into consideration the concerns made aware by the organization. FMBA also believes that by listening to the concerns of affected business entrepreneurs, it will restore the losses incurred over the past two years at a swift pace.
