On the 14 December 2021, “Experience Penang” was launched by The Penang State Tourism at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition was to promote Penang to be the ideal destination for all tourist as travels resumes in the county for the fully vaccinated individuals. The launch was accompanied by the presence of Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), YB Yeoh Soon Hin and CEO of Penang Global Tourism, Mr Ooi Chok Yan.
Featuring two famous UNESCO-designated sites like George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Penang Hill UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the campaign strives to increase the number of visitors to Penang where tourist could enjoy quirky street art, famous street foods, 130-million-year-old virgin rainforest, and diverse natural landscapes of hills and beaches all around Penang. With the aim to elevate Penang as an aspiration to be the top tourism destination in Malaysia, these initiatives are aligned to the Penang Tourism Master Plan and Penang 2030 vision.
YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE) said, “The “Experience Penang” campaign is an important step for us to take to rebuild tourism by attracting more domestic tourists to visit Penang. Thankfully, visitors are still keen to visit Penang even though the pandemic may have made Malaysians more cautious of crowded places. A recent survey by an online travel booking platform revealed that Malaysians are still keen on well-known domestic tourist spots, and Penang is one of the top five most booked destinations. That’s because the urban settings of Penang offer all the sights and sounds of contemporary life while maintaining its historical charms.”
To ensure the safety of the tourist, Penang Tourism had taken initiative to launch the “Penang Responsible Tourism” campaign together with the “COVID-19 Safety Accreditation Program” last year to strengthen preventive measures of COVID-19.
