Central I-City recently collaborated with City Farm to launch City Rooftop Farm which sees a vacant roof space remodelled into an eco-friendly, urban farm. City Rooftop Farm will house the nation’s first rooftop premium melon farming facility as its core cultivation to begin the initial phase of this effort to engage city folk with sustainable urban farming solutions with the ability to grow locally from anywhere.
“Being an integral part of i-City, we aim to be a lifestyle hub, committed to the community around us, and will continue ongoing efforts to build a sustainable ecosystem for all. The initiative serves as the catalyst, supporting local small businesses to create an avenue for everyone to be more involved with sustainable farming, starting with the Urban Farming Festival 2022, in hopes that the locals too might eventually source fresh produce right from our rooftop,” said Anthony Dylan, Chief Operating Officer, I-City.
Supported by the Selangor Agricultural Department, Jabatan Pertanian Negeri Selangor, the Urban Farming Festival 2022 for the second year in a row, was initiated by Central I-City and City Farm Malaysia.
The festival was held for three days from 20 May to 22 May to raise awareness regarding farming in the cities as an alternative food source. The highlight of the event, however, was the launch of City Rooftop Farm at level 4.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Tuan IR. Izham bin Hisham, EXCO Infrastruktur and Pertanian Negeri Selangor which was followed by him signing the official opening plaque. The Urban Farming Festival 2022 was made a central hub which connected local businesses and the public to experts from the urban farming background.
