A joint statement released by – Malaysia Shopping Malls Association (PPK), Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA), Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Bumiputra Retailers Organisation (BRO), Malaysia REIT Managers Association (MRMA), and the Malaysian Association of Theme Park and Family Attractions (MATFA), stated that these associations are waiting in great anticipation for the privileges that fully vaccinated individuals will enjoy, as announced by Prime Minister, YAB Tan Sri Mahiaddin several days ago.
This would make it easier for businesses to re-open safely as soon as possible and prevent business closures, layoffs, and unemployment. The association suggests that businesses that can maintain 70% fully vaccinated staff at any given time, should be allowed to operate, admitting fully vaccinated customers only.
Apart from admitting shoppers that are at “low-risk” and/or “casual contact – no symptom” status on the MySejahtera app, with temperatures below 37.5 degrees, malls will also additionally check the vaccination status on each person that enters the mall, allowing only those who are fully vaccinated. In turn, malls will effectively become sort of a Green Bubble environment.
They believe with these conditions applied, it would be a manageable risk for all shops in the mall to be open for business, thereby improving the chance of revival and survival of retail businesses.
“Malls will become a Green Bubble environment for the public to seek relief and release after being cooped up for so long as well as for some physical exercise and mental health therapy.”
“This vaccination dividend and privilege will invariably create further urgency to be vaccinated and we urge that more inoculation capacity and more PPVs be ramped up thereby achieving herd immunity faster so that our economy can repair and recover earlier and with more certainty.”
